So begins the history of the <strong>Palomar</strong> Ama t eur <strong>Radio</strong> <strong>Club</strong> by t he <strong>Club</strong>' s<br />

Historical Committee: W6BLL, K6HAV, and WA6KZN. The <strong>Palomar</strong> <strong>Amateur</strong> Radi o<br />

<strong>Club</strong> was f ounded on February 13, 1936 , by Fred Elser, W6GVU, a nd for the<br />

f i r s t several months was known a s "The Northern San Diego County <strong>Radio</strong><br />

<strong>Club</strong> . "<br />

We hope to have some of our founding fathers present for our February<br />

club meeting so PLEASE COME AND JOIN US IN OUR CLUB'S GOLDEN JUBILEE BIRTH­<br />

DAY CELEBRATION.<br />

FEBRUARY CLUB MEETING<br />

Edison Company (NO, not SDG&E, SCE ) . A fine group of f acts by a l ady who<br />

knows she ' s t alking t o a s e a soned old group of amat eur radio disa s t er<br />

expert s. Nancy's coming all the way from beauti ful downtown Ro s emead to<br />

talk to you, so y'all c ome .<br />

SHOW AND TELL wi l l featu r e a portable non-elect r ical sol dering iron (a<br />

r eal HOT t i p so don't t ry and pocket it); an operating packet s tat i on<br />

in p l ace be fore and after the meeti ng f o r hands- on experienc e ; Fred Brown ,<br />

W6HPH, will show us his home b r ew universal oscillator with schematics<br />

available to those who want t hem.<br />

JANUARY CLUB MEETING<br />

At the January meeting, which was held at the Mount Ve r non Inn in Escon ­<br />

dido, Bob Hoover, KA6HZF , t old us about Packe t <strong>Radio</strong>; a nd t ha t i t i s the<br />

wave of t he f uture for amateur radio digita l c ommunicat i ons. Bob, Paul,<br />

KB 5MU, and Gerry , N6LYX, had working packet stati ons f or our informa t ion<br />

and ins pection. W9FQN announced that the February mee ting would be t he<br />

50th Annivers ary Meeting for t he <strong>Palomar</strong> <strong>Amateur</strong> <strong>Radio</strong> <strong>Club</strong>. KB6DNR was<br />

awa rded a certificate commemorat ing the day last Fa l l when Larry' s 2M r ig,<br />

locked on t he air by t iny hands , ke pt W6NWG/R timed out f o r sever al hour s.<br />

I t cost t he <strong>Club</strong> $50 to rent the hall, but it was spacious enough f or our<br />

large turnout , although the acoustics were poor. (But KB6 DNR 's s ound<br />

sys t e m l e t u s hear a nyone who was at the mike - it rea l ly works !)<br />

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING<br />

The Executi ve Committ ee, consisting of the <strong>Club</strong>' s off icers and commi ttee<br />

c ha irmen , mee ts on the second Thursday of the month at the home o f var i ous<br />

o f i ts members. Without fail, the meetings usually start at 7 : 30 o f the<br />

p.m. <strong>Club</strong> members are welc ome to attend and observe.<br />

At the January meeting, which was held at the home of W9FQN, much wa s<br />

discussed a nd reported , i ncluding the incr eas ed cost o f publi s h i ng the<br />

Sc ope on l etter-si ze paper ; the repeaters (see fo l lowing i t em) ; t he con-<br />
