MARCH CLUB MEETING
THE PROGRAM f or the evening will be presented by Captain Chuck Wood,
WD6APP, of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. He will talk to us
about the 911 emergency phone s y stem and the Sheriff's communication system.
A great chance to update your superlative knowledge of reporting
emergencies and how and when to use 911. Sure, we all know, but let's just
check anyway.
SHOW AND TELL will feature an up-date on Mexican amateur radio licenses by
George, K6RTD, and others. There will also be a packet radio station set
up for anyone who wants some hands-on experience before the meeting.
COFFEE AND THE USUAL NO-CAL GOODIES by Vina and friends. (Vina still needs
friends to bring goodies for March; and to sign up for succeeding months
let her know.)
SIGN THE ATTENDANCE LOG at all club events. Each attendance is worth one
ticket for the drawing hel d at the Club's annual picnic. No signature, no
tickee. No tickee, no washee! Several folks appear to have missed signing
in at the February meeting. DOlT!
FEBRUARY CLUB MEETING
At the February meeting , W9FQN was the latest recipient (from WF6L) of
an award presented (so far, at least) only to KB6DNR for heroic achievement
in the field of endurance transmitting on 146.130 mHz (we never did quite
figure out Stan's transgression). W60LQ announced that 50th Anniversary
PARC badges would be available from him for $2.50, but only during this
anniversary year. W9FQN announced that club equipment which had not been
sold would be taken to the March Swap Meet at Jack Murphy Stadium parking
lot where a club table or tables will be set up on the 1st of March. Club
members may make arrangements to have their equipment put out on the club
table (s) .
During Show and Tell W6HPH demonstrated his universal oscillator for
testing crystals; and N6LYX showed us a very useful pocket-sized butanepowered
soldering torch and had his packet radio station up and
for any who wanted to try it.
operating
WA6KZN presented those of the Club's charter members who were present:
Harry Field, W6LKC; Walt Huckabay, W6JRQ; Harold Ulmer W6EPM; Jack Cornell,
W6MMO; and Roy Williamson, W6NXR. Bob also read a letter from Charter
Member Johnny Trent, KL7DG, of Anchorage, saluting the Club on its 50th
Anniversary and sending along a cash donation to help in its celebration.
The program for the evening was presented by pretty (she's my stepdaughter)
Nancy Jean Kendall of Southern California Edison Company (no, NOT
SDG&E!) who gave us an illustrated talk on earthquake preparedness, emphasizing
the absolute necessity for prior planning and
Richter 8-9 IS out there!
preparation. That
The meeting was ended with the cutting of a beautiful 50th Anniversary
cake, which Vina and friends (she says thanks to those who helped with it)
took care of order ing and delivering. Stan had great batches of the Club's
