emergency communications organization in north county; correspondence with
Fried Heyn, our ARRL Division Director and with TASMA; and the possibility
o f raising enough money to buy the note on our property on Mount Palomar at
"a discounted price should it become available (one member wil l kick in
$1,000 towards the purchase). The Committee decided to publish a club
roster in the May Scope. W9FQN was directed to respond to a letter from
the ARRL SW Division Director.
REPEATER
On April 20th , a repeater site working party, consisting of N6LYX and son
Richard, NU6L and brother Steve, W9FQN and daughters Susan and Linda, and
WB6IQS, went to work and cleared brush, raked leaves, and installe d t emporary
guy wires on the tower at the 30' level. WB6IQS, who had constructed
a bench for the new 450 mHz repeater, installed it and connected up the
batteries for the emergency supply to that repeater. A heavy-duty drill,
loaned by NOCPS, made the work go faster. Another working party will be
needed to finish the guy-wire installation and to install more batteries.
Thanks to Jay, W6FAY, for his donation of a beautiful automatic battery
charger for the emergency power system of our 450 mHz machine.
We still need some support from our 450 repeater users to help pay for
the MSY repeater. Our trea$urer, WI6B, says that we need nearly $100 more
in the kitty. He has received contributions for the 450 repeater from:
WD6B/WA60HB, WI6B, N6FMK, K6HAV/N6INN, WB6IQS, W9KEX, WA6KZN, and K6ROR.
FIELD DAY JUST A NEWSLETTER AWAY
The annual ARRL Field contest is just about seven or eight weeks away
(June 28-29), so let's start sharpening up our antennas and oiling up our
~ transceivers - o r what ever it is we do to get ready for the next coming of
Murphy. This is our one big outing of the year, and a great chance for all
of our club members to get out and participate, help with the setting up or
the tearing down, or just plain spectate.
We hope to operate all bands from 160M to 450 mHz, and maybe we can get
Bob, WA7GRW, to come out and get us some contacts on "radar" , and Paul,
KB5MU, to get us a bunch on packet radio. We'll see you there.
SOUTHERN COUNTIES AMATEUR TELEPRI NTER SOCIETY NEARING EXTINCTION
From recent issues of Scatter, the voice of the Southern Counties Amateur
Teleprinter Society, which were sent to us By Vern, W6HW, it appears that
the waning interest in RTTY is imperilling the existence of SCATS , which
operates two RTTY repeaters, one on 146.700 and the other on 224.72. Consideration
is being given to other forms of digital communications.
