On a warm August day, 138 OCR
members in 76 cars gathered at Jack and
Margaret Brown’s hangar at Fullerton
Airport to begin the 9th Annual Hearts
and Garages Tour. This tour is an annual
progressive dinner that is a fund-raiser
for our Region’s designated charity.
Check-in went very smoothly for
a large group despite the warm day,
thanks to the efforts of Judy Lech and
Gloria Moore at registration, and Larry
Moore and Ken Fredrickson manning
the gate. After parking, the members
got a chance to view Jack’s cars in the
hangar, which was amply decorated
with Porsche pictures and memorabilia.

Steve Anderson had done many of the
pictures on the hangar walls, and he
also came out to join in the festivities.
Steve gave each participant a poster.
The Porsches of the participants
were lined up in front of multiple
hangars, which created an impromptu
car show for everyone to enjoy. Besides
the Porsches in the hangar, there was
a vintage Corvette, a ‘57 Chevy and a
unique Alfa Romeo coupe that had been
featured in Road and Track magazine.
After devouring the antipasto, salad and
bruchetta (supplied by Mulberry Street
restaurant), visiting with friends and
checking out the cars, we all departed, in
true Porsche fashion, for the next stop.
The second destination was in
Irvine, where the main course of
Hawaiian BBQ was eaten al fresco
outside Bryan Pepper and Heather
Fera’s garage. Umbrellas and canopies
had been erected to shield folks from
the afternoon sun, and we were all
grateful the previous week’s heat wave
had ended. It was a sumptuous
repast, and everyone enjoyed
the distinctive Hawaiian flavors.
There were three different model
Boxsters in the garage, including a
RS60 Spyder Anniversary Edition,
and each had an informational sheet
explaining its distinctive features.
Then it was a dash off to
San Clemente (there was that onramp
grand prix again) for dessert,
coffee, German chocolate cake
and apple at the home of Michael
and Shelley Reissmueller. The
morning’s wind and rain in South
County had cleared and everyone
enjoyed a beautiful evening in
the back yard facing towards the
Pacific Ocean.
