3.12 Slip roads (connecting roads) should be shown from the point where they diverge from the main line. The starting point should be the highway boundary not the carriageway boundary. Treatment of junctions 3.13 Where the motorway ends, the black line should continue as far as the point where the Motorway Regulations will end. This is normally the back of the verge of the side road. At motorway to motorway junctions, the links - including any circulatory junctions - should be treated as slip roads. Numbering and lettering 3.14 The start and end points of the motorway should be lettered A and B. Where there are a number of Sections, the lettering will continue C - D, E - F etc. Slip roads will be numbered. New bridges over Navigable Waters and Diversion of Navigable Waters 3.15 Guidance on plans for bridging navigable waters and for diversion of navigable waters is given in Section 6. 15
4. Appropriation and Transfer Orders under Section 18 of the Highways Act Scale Requirement of Regulations 4.1 The Regulations require appropriation Order plans to be at a scale of not less than 1:2,500. This will normally be adequate. Markings Standard Key 4.2 The following key conventions are used Appropriation 4.3 The markings should be applied separately to the main line of the proposed motorway and each slip road in recognition of the fact that these are separate highways. They should be applied to the full width of the highway between motorway fences. Scheme Details 4.4 The scheme must be shown in sufficient detail to show the key laid across the full width of the highways. Extent of Marking 4.5 The plan marking should extend to the full length of the road being appropriated or transferred. Slip roads should be shown by separate marking. 16
