Parachute Convention a Huge Success

The International Parachute Convention was an overwhehning
success. For the first time, several parachute associations held their meetings
at the sarue tirne and place. Over 450 parachuting people representing 23
countries were in attendance. Over an eight-day period in January, meetings
were held by The Parachute Industry Association, The United States
Parachute Association, the Canadian Sport Parachuting Association's
Technical Committee, the Nordic Riggers' Association, the SAE's $17
committee, there was a Tandem Parachute Conference, Strong's Rigger
School reurrion, and a Accelerated FreeFall course. During the conference,
there were manufacturers' exhibits, a three-day riggers seminar (over 50
papers were presented), several evening receptions and a banquet. Now, the
organizers are planning to do it again.
Other parachute associations are being invited to hold their meetings
in Orlando, Florida, in mid-February of 1993. Each meeting $ri[ be
completely independent but will be at the same large hotel and convention
center. The 1991 series ofparachute events are expected to last 10 to 14 days.
"A rising tide raises all boats." said conference chair Lucia Furry.
"Bringing all of the parachute industry together will result in a higher
turnout for every group. Everyone attending will appreciate the opportunity
to take part in so many parachuting activities at one time and place. All
associations will get more visibility and publicity. And, the facilities will be
even better since a larger group has more bargaining power."
