2.10 Natural Resource Management

2.11 Zone Emergency Management Committee
• Report tabled.
• Additional update from J. Brak, noting replacement Project Officer has been recently
appointed – Beth Germein.
• Workshop session held late April to identify hazards – will need to redevelop regional
plan.
• ZEMC likely to seek a nominee from each Council to the committee, similar to the Bushfire
Committee arrangements.
Motion: That the Central Local Government Region recommend the continuing appointment of
Ms Pat Flood (Clare & Gilbert Valleys) and Mr John Brak (Goyder) to the Yorke/Mid North Zone
Emergency Management Committee.
Moved: Wakefield (Ottens) Seconded: Northern Areas (Browne) CARRIED
2.12 Flood Remediation Project
• Project progress report tabled and noted.
• Ongoing issues with Councils being unable to insure floodways.
2.13 National Broadband Network
• Report tabled.
• Positive start with broadband fibre announcements. Wireless map due for release soon.
• Some anomalies to be followed up.
Motion: That the Central Local Government Region continue to work with Regional
Development Australia and Councils to ensure a timely and appropriate rollout of the National
Broadband Network across the region.

2.14 Regional Stakeholder Updates
• Murray Darling Association Region 8
• Update to the meeting from Rodney Button, Chair of the MDA Region 8.
• Advised ongoing struggle for engagement with Councils and feedback to the Chair on
Council views.
• Region 8 meetings have very low attendance.
• National conference to be held Mildura in August – attendance by Councils encouraged.
• Opportunity for MDA to support Council projects, as relevant.
• Noted current vice president of the association is Geoff Brock.
• Ideally consider an annual meeting of the MDA Region 8 to be held centrally in Port
Pirie.
• Also advised R. Button continues to be a member on the Recreational Boating Facilities
Committee – issues can be referred through.
Recommendation: That Mr Rodney Button to be reaffirmed as the Murray Darling Association
Region 8 Chairman.

• Northern and Yorke NRM Board
• Update to the meeting by Regional Manager, Lynne Walden.
• Recent workshop to consider challenges and opportunities for regional integration
around issues such as developing a single point of contact in the region; integrating the
workforce; delivery through increasing partnerships and collaborations; moving to
landscape approaches.
• Advised board success in funding through the Biodiversity Fund for projects around
catchment management, coastal habitat on southern Yorke Peninsula and biodiversity
management in the upper north region.
