MEETING: COMMUNIQUE REPORT DATE: June 2012 9 DEPARTMENT: OFFICER: Administrative Services Colin Byles, Manager Administrative Services REPORT ITEM: 1.0 REPORT TITLE: RISK COORDINATOR’S REPORT Implementation Budget Impact Risk Assessment File Reference Ongoing N/A N/A 605.106 – Risk Management STRATEGIC REFERENCE: Goal 5 Outcome 5.3 Targets 5.3.4 & 5.3.9 Organisational Excellence Regional & Industry Leader Provide a safe and healthy work environment. Ensure that Council has and maintains best practice risk management systems, emergency response policies and business continuity planning. INFORMATION ONLY The past 3 months for Occupation Health Safety & Welfare (OHSW) has been the continuation of the OHSW Plan and the completion of the Risk Management Review. 1.1 OHSW AND INJURY MANAGEMENT PLAN - QUARTERLY REVIEW Second quarterly review was conducted in March 2012. Again all four programs were reviewed: Hazard Management, Consultation & Communication, Contractor Management and Training. General comments / observations: • Senior Management Team (SMT) well conversant with Hazard Management program – actions required, responsibilities, target dates and the objective of the program • Concern with Technical Services – high risk area and extension of target dates; can not continue this attitude towards this area of Council. More commitment and allocation of resources required. Not achieving a holistic approach to OHSW within Council. • 6 months until a full review and planning & programming of the next OHSW & IM Plan is undertaken – aim is not to be putting the same programs and actions on the new plan. Deferred programs (Emergency Management & Business Continuity and Internal Auditing) can not be continually deferred. • Highly recommend each Manager revisits the updated Plan and timeline to refresh on what is to be achieved before the next quarterly review.
