Consumers Are Pressed for Meal-Time Prep<br />
Not only are consumers cooking less often, they are spending less time<br />
on meal prepar<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
• In the 1970s, evening meal prep averaged two to three hours; by 1985 the<br />
time had dropped to one hour; in 2002 the average meal prepar<strong>at</strong>ion time was<br />
30-40 minutes<br />
Consumers increasingly report a shortage of time for meal prepar<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
• 53 percent like to cook <strong>at</strong> home, but do not have the time<br />
• 21 percent of these consumers would like to prepare food <strong>at</strong> home but do not<br />
have the skill<br />
