Cananéia is one of the oldest municipalities in the country, founded in 1531. Its urban<br />
center has been historically recognized as cultural heritage and the city has several conservation<br />
units relevant to the local biodiversity. Today, its economy is based on tourism and fishing.<br />

What to do?<br />
The architectural set of Cananéia still preserves the colonial style. With still preserved<br />
houses up to today, it is possible to walk around its streets in the city center and see its historic<br />
buildings housing restaurants and small handicrafts shops.<br />
Within the limits of Cananéia, the great attraction of the region is Ilha do Cardoso State<br />
Park, with semi-desert beaches and still preserved Atlantic Forest areas. Boats depart toward the<br />
park from the city center. On the way to the islands, visitors can see some pods of dolphins and<br />
several birds. Fishing villages welcome pretty well visitors for 1-day tours at Perequê Part or even<br />
for longer stays at Marujá Part. In addition to enjoying the long waterfront, boat rides and trails are<br />
available and lead visitors to amazing waterfalls accompanied by environmental guides registered<br />
in the park. The following are part of the Trail Program in São Paulo: Poço das Antas Trail, a 3.5-hour<br />
course and medium level of difficulty; and Piscinas da Lage Trail, an 8-hour course and high level<br />
