At the time of its publication,<br />

Stoker was working <strong>for</strong> the<br />

British actor, Sir Henry Irving,<br />

and sometimes moonlighting<br />

as a stage manager and actor.<br />

Dracula - Stoker's fifth novel -<br />

has become a classic and<br />

perhpas the most famous<br />

Gothic horror story of all time.<br />

Its popularity has been equally<br />

extensive on stage and on<br />

screen. A dramatization of the<br />

novel by Hamilton Dean<br />

premiered in London on<br />

February 14, 1927. In October<br />

of 1927 the play appeared on<br />

Broadway in a slightly different<br />

version, with John L.<br />

Balderston as collaborator. It<br />

starred the romantic<br />

Hungarian actor, Bela Lugosi,<br />

who recreated his role i the<br />

film Dracula released in 1931.<br />
