Texas. Robert L. B. Tobin was<br />

an important theatre patron<br />

and a visionary theatre<br />

colelctor who appreciated the<br />

artistic as well as the<br />

documentary importance of<br />

scene and costume designs.<br />

His collection, which includes<br />

preliminary sketches,<br />

presentations drawings, and<br />

maquettes, comprises the core<br />

of the theatre arts collection at<br />

the McNay. With special<br />

strengths in nineteenth-and<br />

twentieth-century American<br />

and European designs <strong>for</strong><br />

poperas, ballets, and musicals,<br />

the Tobin Collection is among<br />

the finest of its kind in an<br />

American art museum. Noted<br />

<strong>for</strong> its holdings of designs by<br />

painters who also designed <strong>for</strong><br />
