In dialogue with the market
The International Federation of Fruit Juice Producers Symposium (IFU), a forum where suppliers,
producers and institutions exchange views and experiences, was held from 22 to 27 June 2003.
The choice of Moscow as the venue clearly reflects the significance of the Russian market which,
with a volume of 1.8 billion litres, has developed into one of the world’s largest.
Showing the flag in Moscow: Thomas Binder,
Business Development Manager, Russia, spoke on
In Moscow, some 300 participants
caught up with the latest perspectives and
strategies in the fruit juice market. Changing
consumer habits were discussed as
much as the latest marketing trends as
well as innovations and optimisations in
the sectors of quality management and
process technology. The professional forum
also addressed market-specific questions
such as national guidelines, trade
agreements and barriers, plus the particular
aspects of rapidly growing markets.
Meeting consumer requirements
Given the major strategic significance
of Russia, the main sponsor of the symposium,
Thomas Binder, Business Development
Manager for Russia, spoke on behalf
of SIG Combibloc Eastern Europe. In addition
to highlighting SIG’s 70 years of competence
in packaging liquid products, the
other focal points of his presentation were
the packaging innovation combifit and the
new combishape technology.
In order to survive in an environment
of ever stronger competition, juice producers
must position their products towards
meeting the growing requirements of consumers.
Nowadays, products that are consumed
on a daily basis are at the heart of a
continuous improvement process.
One of these improvements from
combibloc was, in addition to combiTop
the world’s first reclosable opening aid, the
combiTwist which, according to Thomas
Binder is, “A closure that has significantly
enhanced consumer convenience and generated
increased sales for producers.”
The package makes all the difference
Also as a marketing tool for differentiation
from competitors, the package is taking
on increased significance. By presenting
the current combifitPremium format
and the new technology combifit, Thomas
Binder again emphasised the importance
of combibloc as a competent and innovative
systems supplier to the beverage industry.
Its expertise ranges from the development
of filling equipment right through to POS
positioning in the market.
Overall, the participants in the forum
events gained a comprehensive overview
of current trends in the global fruit juice
market and valuable impressions that will
impact on future developments.
