“Extra credit,”’ said Billy. He knew better than to tell the truth.
“Get a load of this,” said Billy’s father. He was reading the paper. “‘Withc Teaches
School’.”
“It’s witch,” said Billy.
“It says withc here,” said Billy’s father. He showed Billy the paper.
“That’s spelled wrong,” said Billy.
“It is not,” said Billy’s father.
“Is so,” said Billy.
“Go to your room,” said Billy’s father.

“We want our old teacher back,” said Billy, the next day. “She was nicer than you.”
“Too bad,” said the substitute. “She is dead. Now line up for a Spelling Be.”
“It’s bee,” said Billy.
“Incorrect!” said the witch. “You are the first one out. Sit down.”
Billy sat down. The next kid’s word was witch. She spelled it withc.
“Correct,” said the substitute.
The next kid’s word was substitute. He spelled it susbitute.
“Correct,” said the witch.
Billy started to cry.
