Ministry Of Defence Triumphs At
Chinese Chess
IT was a race to the finish
for the 14 teams, from 8
government agencies,
that took part in the Public
Service Chinese Chess
Competition. It was held at
Club CSC @ Tessensohn on
Saturday, 28 August 2010. At
the last moment, Ministry of
Defence (MINDEF) pulled
ahead on points to win the championship.
Team Convener Mr Chow Kim Sun said that the team
was “extremely excited and happy” with the win. Despite the
members’ hectic work schedule, they still gathered for practice
sessions during lunch hours and after work. Mr Chow credited
the team for their hard work, but also acknowledged that there
was an element of luck in their games. He said, “While winning
the competition was satisfying, it was also a good chance to
meet Chinese Chess lovers from across the civil service. All of
us had our fill of fun and excitement that day.”

It’s A Bullseye For MEWR
THE Public Service Darts
Competition was held at

2010, and saw a total of 21
teams from 11 government
agencies taking part.

(MEWR) once again proved they were the team to beat.
Team leader Mr Neo Koon Chan said his team was very
happy as this was their fourth consecutive win. He said
that team members attended centralised weekly training
for months before the competition, and credited them for
supporting each other through the whole process.

MHA Emerge As Champion In Mixed
Netball Carnival
IT was an exciting day at
the CCAB netball courts on
Saturday, 25 Sep 10, as 33 teams
from 17 government agencies
competed in the Public Service
Mixed Netball Carnival. The
teams were drawn into eight
groups. They battled it out and
the top two teams from each
group proceeded on to the
knockout stage. It was a tough

fight but in the end, the Ministry of Home Affairs triumphed over
Ministry of Defence in the final to emerge champion.
Team convenor Ms Irene Liew said that the team was “ecstatic
and overjoyed” to have clinched the title. Due to clashes in work
shifts they were unable to train together as a team, but all of them
trained once a week in the evenings whenever possible. She
credited the team’s dedication and love for the game for the win, as
well as the support they received from their colleagues and family.

MOE Scores In 7-A-Side Football
IT was almost a clean
sweep for the Ministry
of Education (MOE)
as they took three of
the top four places
in this year’s Public
Service 7-A-Side
Football Tournament.
The tournament was
held over two days at

18 and 19 September 2010, and had a total of 27 teams from 18
government agencies participating.
MOE football convenor Mr Abdul Nasir said that his team’s
performance in the tournament was the best compared to
previous years. “The players have done very well this year,
especially after coming in first place in the Futsal competition as
well,” he said. He credited his players’ commitment and desire to
win as the motivation for doing well in the tournament.
