Academic Advising
Do you have to see an advisor before registering for classes?
Academic advising is an interactive process involving the student and his/her academic
advisor. Each term, prior to registration, it is the student’s responsibility to meet with
his/her academic advisor to discuss courses for the upcoming semester. The academic
advisor serves as a valuable information resource to the student in the areas of program
requirements, college graduation requirements and transfer coursework. It is important that
students arrange to meet with their academic advisor BEFORE registration begins. Students
are strongly encouraged to seek advice from individual faculty members and an academic
advisor. Visit early! At peak periods in the semester, there may be a significant wait time.

In addition to meeting with an advisor to plan your schedule for the coming semester,
you should schedule an advising appointment to discuss:
• Your progress toward your degree
• Difficulties you are having with your current courses
• Adding or dropping a course
• How to plan for transferring to another college or university
• What you need to do to graduate
• Balancing school with the other demands on your time
New Student Orientation
All first-year Sandburg students will have participated in our New Student Orientation
prior to the start of the semester. The orientation offers an interactive campus tour,
college success tips, acquiring your student ID, participation in a technology check and
locating your classrooms during the 2 1/2-hour session. For more information, contact
the Office of Student Life at 309.341.5332.

Registering for Classes
All new students are required to meet with an academic advisor to register for classes
their first semester at Carl Sandburg College. Please call 309.341.5237 to make an
appointment with an advisor.
Register by Phone
Sandburg students may register for classes by phone by speaking with a registration
clerk by calling 309.341.5260. The College accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover or
American Express for tuition and fees payment.
Register Online
Only currently enrolled Sandburg students may register for courses online via
mySandburg at www.sandburg.edu/content/mysandburg.
Paying Your Bill
Tuition deadlines will be posted on our website and around campus. We will send out
postcards, bills or phone calls at least two weeks prior to the tuition deadline. You can
make one or multiple payments to the Business Office as long as your tuition is paid
in full by the tuition deadline. Failure to pay your tuition balance in full by the tuition
deadline may result in being dropped from your classes. Payment for classes added
after the tuition deadline is due at the time of enrollment. Carl Sandburg College
accepts tuition payments online, by phone, by mail, in person and by certain thirdparty
entities. The College also offers a deferred payment plan as well as an automatic
payment plan. Students can view their current tuition balance and tuition deadlines via
