Panel Mount Controller in 1/8 DIN Size
Watlow, a designer and manufacturer of
electric heaters, controllers and temperature
sensors, introduces the EZ-ZONE® PM
panel mount controller in a new 1/8 DIN
size. This new controller is available with
choice of horizontal or vertical configuration
allowing it to fit variable cabinet profiles.
The new EZ-ZONE PM 1/8 DIN features
larger characters and buttons improving
usability. The product’s new case slots make
it easier to remove the control hardware
from the front pluggable DIN chassis by simply
utilizing a screwdriver. The EZ-ZONE PM
1/8 DIN offers advanced functionality not
available with the 1/16 and 1/32 DIN controllers
such as dual channel PID control,
cascade control, square-root linearization,
wet bulb/dry bulb capability, ratio and pressure
to altitude compensation curves. The
EZ-ZONE 1/8 DIN also has the ability to run

a single profile ramp-soak program on dual
channels simultaneously.
The EZ-ZONE controller product line is comprised
of integrated thermal loop controllers.
The EZ-ZONE PM 1/8 DIN is a new member
of the EZ-ZONE family and allows for integration
of a high amperage power controller
with a high-performance PID controller and
an over/under limit controller in one space
saving, panel mount package. A number of
serial communications options are also available
to support connectivity needs.

High Power Rectifiers for Rail, Traction and Marine Drive Applications
IXYS Corporation announced that its wholly
owned UK subsidiary, Westcode Semiconductors
Limited, expanded the 50mm pole
rectifier product range with improved power
density and efficiency. The introduction of
four new devices expands the voltage range
to include products from 300V to 6kV. These
new additions offer maximum performance
within the confines of an industry standard
footprint thereby minimizing size and weight
while maximizing power.
The average current rating represents a 50%
increase over present products of the same
voltage and overall package size. Improved
performance is achieved by maximizing the
active silicon area and an improved vertical
structure. The pole rectifier design allows for
double sided cooling thus offering best in
class thermal and electrical efficiencies. In
addition to the increased average current
rating, the device also offers enhanced
surge ratings and can be supplied to special
3-Watt Miniature High Brightness LEDs
Avago Technologies announced one of the industry's smallest high-brightness 3-Watt LEDs
for use in a wide range of solid-state lighting applications. With dimensions of 5 mm by 4 mm
by 1.85 mm thick, Avago's new compact 3-Watt (3W) ASMT-Jx3x is packaged in a small outline
package (SOP) and capable of being driven to up to 700 mA to provide high flux output
performance. Additionally, this compact LED emitter provides a wide viewing angle, has
moisture sensitivity level-one (MSL 1) capability, and is very reliable. This competitively
priced 3W LED emitter is ideal for use in lighting applications where space is constrained.
Typical applications include portable lighting appliances, street lighting, architectural facade
lighting, retail display lighting, backlighting and a wide range of specialty lighting applications.

Smallest 6-A, 17-V Step-DEown DC/DC Converter
Extending its family of easy-to-use SWIFT
power management integrated circuits (ICs),
Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today
introduced the industry’s smallest singlechip,
6-A, 17-V step-down synchronous
switcher with integrated FETs. The high-performance
TPS54620 is 60 percent smaller
than today’s multi-chip converters, resulting
in a complete 6-A power solution less than
195 mm2 -- one-fourth the size of a postage
stamp. The 1.6-MHz monolithic DC/DC converter
supports input voltages from 4.5 to 17
V, allowing it to manage space-constrained
5-V and 12-V point-of-load designs, such as
a wireless base station or high-density server.

voltage reference with +/- one percent
accuracy over temperature. Achieving a 95percent
power conversion efficiency and a

SWIFT devices, the converter easily powers
deep sub-micron TI digital signal processors
(DSPs) and other embedded processors,
such as FPGAs and ASICs.
