Luc Van den hove to Serve as President and CEO
Leuven, Belgium –
June 2, 2009 –
IMEC today
announced that its
board of directors
has named Luc
Van den hove as
IMEC’s new President
and Chief
Executive Officer.
Gilbert Declerck is
elected as member of the Board of IMEC
International. In addition, he will continue to
serve IMEC as Executive Officer, concentrating
on key governmental and industrial relations
and on strategic advice. Changes will
ANSYS, Inc. announced the latest release of
SIwave software. Part of the Ansoft family
of products, version 4.0 of this technology
includes new features for signal-integrity,
power-integrity and electromagnetic compatibility
testing. It includes numerous enhancements
including an improved desktop graphical
user interface with new post-processing
become effective on July 1, 2009.
Luc Van den hove has spent his entire
career at IMEC, where he started as a team
leader in silicide and interconnect technologies
research. In 1988, he became manager
of IMEC’s micro-patterning group (lithography,
dry etching). As of 1998, he led as Vice
President the Division of Silicon Process and
Device Technology. Since 2007, he served
as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating
Officer.
Luc Van den hove said: “It’s a great honor to
manage one of the world's greatest research
centers, with a proud history of 25 years of
innovation and outstanding talent. Under
Gilbert’s management, IMEC has grown into
Advancements in Signal- and Power-Integrity, Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing
of results, solver enhancements that provide
accurate solutions beyond 10 Gb/s, and
automation that links SIwave electromagnetics
with circuit simulation using Ansoft
Designer® and Nexxim®. Additionally, a new
link between electromagnetics and thermal
analysis has been created for board and
SCHOTT Solar, a leading photovoltaics manufacturer,
entered into a 3 year research
partnership with IMEC, Europe’s leading
independent nanoelectronics research center.
SCHOTT Solar joins IMEC’s newly
launched silicon photovoltaics industrial affiliation
program (IIAP). Within this multi-partner
R&D program, IMEC aims to explore
and develop advanced process technologies
to fuel the steep market growth of silicon
solar cells in a sustainable way. The program
will concentrate on a sharp reduction
in silicon use, whilst increasing cell efficiency
and hence further lowering substantially the
cost per Watt peak.
By joining the silicon photovoltaics IIAP,
researchers from SCHOTT Solar will be able
team to build up fundamental understanding
and develop robust solutions for next-generation
silicon based solar cells. The program
will bring together silicon solar cell manufac-
solid partnerships around the world. Since
my start at IMEC, I have closely teamed with
Gilbert and I’m looking forward to continue
this fruitful collaboration and to build further
on its success. By connecting technology
and industry through research partnerships
as initiated by Gilbert, I’m confident that
IMEC will play an important role in providing
leading-edge nanotechnology R&D which
will enable solutions for a sustainable society.”
talent, risk and cost.
Crystalline silicon solar cells are the workhorse
of the photovoltaic industry, having a
market share of more than 90% of the world
production of solar cells. Within its IIAP,
IMEC aims to reduce both the cost of producing
crystalline silicon solar cells and the
amount of Si/Watt that is needed by half.
Efficiencies of about 20% are targeted.
