From Green to Blue
Turning “Green” to “Blue” happened a while
ago in my publication. It is nice to see and
also to recognize that the mainstream had
found its way to Blue as well. But “Green” is
only a slogan and could be any colour as
long as it stands for efficient design. Let me
just summarize my Viewpoints during the
last three years that encourage efficiency
improvement.
My Statement in January 2007: “Regenerative
energy, like solar and wind power, will
help to develop our future. The “P” in Bodo’s
Power Systems has become green. I am
committed to give attention to solar and wind
power activities worldwide. You will see more
about these technologies in my magazine.
These areas will develop our future.”
My Statement in May 2007: “Remember, my
special focus at PCIM2007 will be “Green
Power”. Mark your calendar for the podium
discussion, “Green Power - The Challenge
of Smarter Design”. Green Power is a very
important thinking process for us.”
My Statement in September 2007: “More
Efficiency and Less Losses are Key”.
Electric Hybrid Vehicles can do a lot to
reduce energy consumption – they operate
electric-only in stop-and-go traffic and then
recover stored momentum when braking.
My Statement in January 2008: “What is
important in the New Year for power electronics?
Efficiency, efficiency and, again, efficiency!
Minimizing semiconductor switching
and conduction losses is only the beginning.”
My Statement in February 2008: “Dresden,
known as Florence on the Elbe, has a
famous blue bridge built in 1893 that crosses
the river. Legend has it that the paint lost its
yellow pigment and changed from green to
blue. The sky is blue - we enjoy its oxygen,
take deep breaths of it, and it’s a basic
requirement for life on our planet. Reflecting
this, “Bodo’s” is changing from yellow to blue
and, as I’ve already mentioned, my focus for
the next PCIM Europe is Blue Efficiency.”
My Statement in May 2008: “Blue Efficiency
at the Next Level” was my podium discussion
at PCIM 2008.
In September 2008, the financial system
failed badly and began a world recession.
Speculators have ruled the economy for a
while and ruined it. Engineers are working
hard to catch up with better solutions for
best efficiency.
My Statement in May 2009: Experts from
the companies involved in new semiconductor
materials painted a picture at my PCIM
podium discussion “Semiconductor Materials
for Higher Efficiency in Power”.
I see strong signs of the economy improving
even though we as the working population
are assuming the burden of bad management
by financial institutions. Risky loans
and bad banks are getting government insurance.
We, the hard working population, have
to pay for some financial people continuing
their poor practice.
There is no better way to communicate. We
all share one world. As a publisher, I serve
the world: one magazine, on time, every
time.
My Green Power Tip for a summer month:
Share a ride to the air port or other places,
rather than driving your own car. Little savings,
one at a time will add up and over time
become significant.
