Anticoagulation<br />
• Heparin does not cross the placenta<br />
– No adverse effects on fetal development<br />
– But maternal thrombocytopenia and osteoporosis<br />
• Oral anticoagulants:<br />
– Readily crosses the placenta<br />
– Fetal warfarin syndrome: hydrocephalus,<br />
microcephaly, growth retardation, ophtalmic<br />
abnormalities<br />
