A second form of this pump is the 'bent axis' piston pump as<br />

shown in Figure 45. This type is often used as a pump/motor unit.<br />

In this form the angle of the swash plate is fixed by the shape of<br />

the casing. The drive shaft rotates the swash plate which, in turn,<br />

rotates the pistons and the cylinder block. The swash plate and<br />

cylinder block are mounted in needle roller bearings so that they<br />

rotate easily.<br />
