The availability of bosentan has simplified the management of CTD-PAH at least for patients with grade 3 disease, however, remarkably little long term follow up data has been available to date. By combining our registry data with the extension trials, we have data on the survival impact on 100 patients treated for up to three years. The data shows that survival at two years is 67%, thus much improved when compared to historical controls but still much higher than that observed in idiopathic PAH. • Assessment and treatment of pulmonary fibrosis in systemic sclerosis Ron du Bois Our concept of pulmonary fibrosis in systemic sclerosis has changed significantly over recent years. This has had important implications with regard to the assessment and treatment of lung complications in patients with this disease. This talk will focus on these novel aspects of management. • Pitfalls in management of scleroderma renal disease Ed Kingdon Renal involvement in scleroderma is not uncommon and scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) is well described. However, SRC is not the only renal manifestation of this disease and SRC presentation may be atypical. The pattern of renal involvement in SSc patients has therapeutic and prognostic significance and correctly identifying different types of renal disease is likely to be important when designing therapeutic trials or studies of the natural history of SSc. • Management of the peripheral vascular complications – critical digital ischaemia Ariane Herrick This session will cover assessment of severity, causation, and treatment (including prevention) of digital ulceration and ischaemia in patients with systemic sclerosis’ 4
