to always have something in
my life that isn’t for me, said
Locker. “It just gives me such a
great feeling and so much more
energy for life.”
Once word spread about the
idea of “Strike A Pose” to help
Locker and the San Antonio Affiliate
of Susan G. Komen for the
Cure, filling the calendar pages
with some of the Alamo City’s
most beautiful women was effortless.
Among the women who
posed were BMP radio’s C.J.
Cruz, WOAI’s Delaine Mathieu,
and FOX’s Karen Martinez.
“Being able to do this meant
a lot to me. I’m a breast cancer
survivor, so raising awareness
about this horrible disease is a
personal goal,” said Fox’s Karen
Martinez. “I’m touched and
amazed by all of the beautiful
women willing to take part in the
calendar shoot. I get emotional
just thinking about how many
people this will reach and how
much awareness it will raise.”
Cancer has affected many
people’s lives whether it’s been
a personal battle or one within
your family. “My grandmother
had breast cancer. She was diagnosed
in her 30’s. She fought
it and lived a very long and
wonderful life,” said WOAI’s
Delaine Mathieu. “Supporting
the cause is an absolute must for
me. I want to see a cure for this
disease that has taken so many
people’s lives.”

Locker’s greatest joy in life
since she was a 5-year-old little
girl was running through the
aisles of her small-town grocery
store and being able to connect
with people. “I would run up
and down the aisles saying hi to
complete strangers,” said Locker
“I’ve always carried the absolute
belief in the goodness in people
and the potential for good in the
world.”
“I feel so honored to have been
asked by Jim and Vanessa of
Sundance Photo Arts, to be part
of Strike A Pose,” said Cruz. “I
am so fortunate to be in the company
of so many amazing women
and to have an opportunity to
help another amazing and incredible
woman, Elf Louis Locker.”
Locker is now cancer free and
in remission. She is a third of the
way through radiation therapy to
ensure she remains cancer free.
“It makes all the difference in
the world when you are going
through something that is frightening
and life altering.” said
Locker. “It’s the love the people
give you and the kindness along
the way that allows you to rise
above the most difficult things
in life.”
