GHG-emission reduction: “EAU, CER, ERU, AAU”: Methodology: Baseline: Monitoring: Contribution to sustainable development: Total GHG emission reduction of the project is approximately 227,818 tonnes of CO2 equivalent and annual average over the crediting period of estimated reductions (tonnes of CO2 e) is 32,545 tonnes CO2 equivalent /year. CER Type I category C that covers “Thermal energy for the user” as baseline methodology is applied to the project. The baseline for the project activity is the GHG emissions from continued use of oil-fired boilers to meet the steam demand of the PGEO refinery and GHG emissions from generation capacities in the Malaysia Peninsular electricity grid system to supply electricity to the refinery. The monitoring methodology “Thermal Energy for end User” type I.C is applied to the project. The necessary data and parameters shall be recorded as above. The project will contribute to the use of sustainable renewable energy sources in a highly efficient manner and is in line with the country’s development policy of renewable energy as a fifth fuel. This will lead to greater self-sufficiency of fuel for the energy sector as it will produce its own power and displace conventional power from the grid. Local manufacturing of high efficient biomass boilers will ensure local employment and reduce the dependency on foreign expenditures. 5.1.6 Economic data: Financing The project will not receive any public funding that will result in a diversion of official development assistance.
