Concession Master, offered by Di-An
Controls, Inc., of Brocicton, Mass.. also has
features aimed at improving service at the
concession stand. The system currently allows
the theatre operator to assign each
product a certain key on the concession
terminal, which increases the attendant's
speed in ringing up sales. The product and
price also is displayed for the customer.
And the firm is in the process of adding
instant credit and bank-debit card features
to the system, according to Robert Kodis,
president, who noted that Concession Master
is available as an add-on to the firm's
boxoffice system. Movie Master, or as
standalone unit.
For
theatre ow ners with humbler computer
requirements. there is a group of
computer firms standing by. ready to
meet those needs. WinterTek. Inc.. of
Cleveland. Ohio, offers a software package
that customizes a standard accounting system
to meet the special needs of a theatre
business. According to Russell Wintner,
a
"WinterTek's software package is designed
to fill the gaps in traditional accounting
systems, enhancing off-the-shelf account-

accounting. The system, for example, calculates
film remittances and creates and
maintains a database of everything played
and paid for future analysis. The administrative
package, designed for exhibitors
with eight to 150 screens, produces
boxoffice reports that can be sent over the
phone 10 the home office, and interfaced to
a general ledger system.
Diversified Management Services, Inc..
of St. Louis. Mo., is also targeting small to
mid-range exhibitors with an off-the-shelf
boxoffice. concession and accounting
package that can be modified according to
the needs of individual theatre owners.
Debbie Wiles, customer representative for
DMS. noted that, for example, not all theatres
require the same type of detailed reporting.
"Some people may use it like a cashier
system: keeping the money straight may be
the most important thing.
Owners of larger
operations may want to know more information,"
she said, adding that the DMS
system can collect marketing information,
such as how inclement weather can affect
boxoffice sales.
