Fishing is a favorite pastime in the<br />

area be<strong>ca</strong>use <strong>of</strong> the many wonderful<br />

lakes for people to enjoy. Lake<br />

<strong>Dauphin</strong> has produced 11 different<br />

master anglers species – 3 other species<br />

<strong>ca</strong>n be <strong>ca</strong>ught 10 minutes away<br />

at the Vermillion Reservoir and 21 <strong>of</strong><br />

the 30 eligible master angler species<br />

<strong>ca</strong>n be <strong>ca</strong>ught within a 50 minute<br />

drive <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dauphin</strong>.<br />

Some lakes have special regulations;<br />

consult the Manitoba Anglers’ Guide<br />

for complete information at<br />

<strong>www</strong>.gov.mb.<strong>ca</strong>/conservation/fish.<br />

<strong>Dauphin</strong> Lake<br />

<strong>Dauphin</strong> Lake is a trophy walleye<br />

fishery with fish weighing 1.4 to 1.8<br />

kg (3-4 lbs) or more! Try your luck<br />

<strong>ca</strong>tching northern pike and Master<br />

Angler walleye. The record <strong>ca</strong>tch <strong>of</strong><br />

a 71.45 cm (32”) walleye was <strong>ca</strong>ught<br />

at Lake <strong>Dauphin</strong> on February 16th,<br />

2002. A number <strong>of</strong> boat launches are<br />

available and Rainbow Beach Provincial<br />

Recreation Park <strong>of</strong>fers <strong>ca</strong>mping<br />

and swimming. Lake <strong>Dauphin</strong> is a<br />

shallow lake, so take <strong>ca</strong>re when boating.<br />

Valley & Wilson Rivers<br />

Fish <strong>of</strong>f shore where the mouth <strong>of</strong><br />

the Valley and Wilson Rivers meet<br />

Lake <strong>Dauphin</strong>. You <strong>ca</strong>n also fish<br />

along the streams for northern pike<br />

and walleye.<br />

Vermillion Reservoir<br />

Lo<strong>ca</strong>ted on the northern boundary<br />

<strong>of</strong> RMNP close to <strong>Dauphin</strong>, the<br />

Vermillion Reservoir is stocked with<br />

smallmouth bass, brown trout, and<br />

rainbow trout. A great place for flyfishing<br />

and <strong>ca</strong>tching Master Angler<br />

brown trout. The record <strong>ca</strong>tch at<br />

Vermillion Reservoir was a 58.42 cm<br />

(23”) smallmouth bass, <strong>ca</strong>ught on<br />

August 10, 2003. Only electric motors<br />

may be used. (map R27)<br />

Duck Mountain Provincial Park<br />

A number <strong>of</strong> great fishing lakes and<br />

rivers <strong>ca</strong>n be found in this park, all<br />

within a 1-hour drive. Try East Blue<br />

Blue Lake for walleye, lake trout,<br />

brown trout and perch. Fish Child’s<br />

Lake for lake trout, northern pike,<br />

splake, walleye and perch. Elk Lake<br />

is a small lake with northern pike,<br />

perch and walleye. Try Gull Lake for<br />

stocked brook trout, rainbow trout,<br />

splake, lake whitefish and sparr and<br />

Laurie Lake for lake trout, brown<br />

trout, splake, northern pike and<br />

perch. Fish for stocked bass and trout<br />

in Perch Lake (<strong>ca</strong>tch and release,<br />

electric motors only). Shilliday<br />

Lake is stocked with rainbow and<br />

brown trout (electric motors only).<br />

Walleye, northern pike, perch and<br />

smallmouth bass <strong>ca</strong>n be <strong>ca</strong>ught in<br />

Singuish Lake.<br />

Riding Mountain<br />

National Park (RMNP)<br />

The lakes <strong>of</strong> RMNP are open to fishing<br />

but are subject to separate rules<br />

and regulations. A Manitoba Angling<br />

License is not valid in RMNP. Moon<br />

Lake is a quiet lake with northern<br />

pike and perch, south <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dauphin</strong><br />
