Chairman AEPC meets<br />

Cabinet Secretary<br />

for boosting apparel<br />

exports from India<br />

Chairman AEPC Dr. A. Sakthivel, met Cabinet Secretary<br />

Shri Ajit Seth in the first week of December 2012. The<br />

meeting was on the efforts to boost apparel exports from<br />

India. Both discussed strategies and initiatives that<br />

would help in export promotion amidst the difficult global<br />

scenario. Dr. Sakthivel informed Cabinet Secretary about<br />

the programmes under 12th Five Year Plan which have been<br />

finalized by the <strong>Council</strong>.<br />

With a view to take faster decisions and faster<br />

implementation of the projects in export promotion,<br />

Chairman AEPC suggested that a committee by the name<br />

Textile <strong>Export</strong> <strong>Promotion</strong> Board (TEPB) under Cabinet<br />

Secretary as Chairmanship may be constituted. Dr. Sakthivel<br />

requested that this proposal may be considered in the<br />

interest of export promotion.<br />

AEPC Skill Assessment Cell enters MoU with<br />

M/s Modelama <strong>Export</strong>s Ltd.<br />

AEPC Skill Assessment Cell has commenced the skill assessment<br />

initiatives in <strong>Apparel</strong>/ Garment, Khadi and Carpet sectors. This new<br />

initiatives will help to create employment, economic growth and social<br />

development processes for the above sectors.<br />

The assessment process under Skill Development Initiative Scheme<br />

is a project guided by Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of<br />

India. It aims to test and certify the competency of persons, seeking<br />

certification of their skills acquired informally or the persons who have<br />

been trained at the registered Vocational Training Provider (VTP).<br />

In last one and a half years (March 2011 to November 2012)<br />

AEPC Skill Assessment Cell has done more than 3312 assessments.<br />

The Skill Assessment Cell has established their Regional offices,<br />

State Offices and panel of Assessors all over India. To achieve its<br />

mission Skill Assessment Cell has further explored the Integrated<br />

Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) of MOT and has entered an<br />

MoU with M/s Modelama <strong>Export</strong>s Ltd on 3rd December 2012 for<br />

assessment of 10,000 candidates being trained by them over a<br />

period of 4 years under ISDS Scheme of MoT component II category.<br />
