Nicaragua’s Delegation visits AEPC<br />
Both sides agree for mutual cooperation in areas of skill development and boosting <strong>Apparel</strong><br />
exports…<br />
A high level delegation from Nicaragua,<br />
headed by H.E. Mr. Saul Arana,<br />
Ambassador, Embassy of Republic of<br />
Nicaragua to Japan visited the <strong>Apparel</strong><br />
<strong>Export</strong>s <strong>Promotion</strong> <strong>Council</strong>, Gurgaon<br />
on 29th November 2012. H.E. Mr.<br />
Comandante Bayardo Arce Castaño,<br />
Economic & Trade Adviser to President<br />
of Nicaragua and Honorable Mr.<br />
Alejandro Lacayo, Honorary Consul of<br />
India in Nicaragua were also part of the<br />
delegation. Shri H K L Magu, Chairman<br />
(F & B), AEPC and Shri Vijay Mathur<br />
ASG, AEPC welcomed the delegation.<br />
Assistant Secretary General, AEPC, Shri Vijay Mathur gave a<br />
presentation to the delegation, that highlighted the prime activities<br />
of AEPC entailing participation in overseas Garment Fairs;<br />
organizing Market Week; organizing ‘India International Garment<br />
Fair’, ‘Tex-Trends India’ and ‘Source Zone’; AEPC to be the<br />
Interface between Government & <strong>Export</strong>ers along with Issuance of<br />
<strong>Export</strong> Performance Certificates for duty free import of trimmings<br />
and embellishments; Issuance of Certificate of Origin; Market<br />
Development Assistance etc.<br />
Shri Mathur also briefed the delegation on the Advantage India<br />
stating that, “India is the 7th largest country in the world by area<br />
and 2nd largest by population and supports over 16% of world<br />
population. It has a young population with 64% of its population in<br />
the age group of 15-64 years and Literacy rate is 64.8%. In terms of<br />
labour force, we have 523.5 Mn workers.” Shri Mathur also informed<br />
that India has a GDP of around 7% and India today also stands<br />
number 3 in attracting FDI from the world. He said that, “We have<br />
around 80 commercial banks and 23 stock exchanges.”<br />
Shri Mathur also briefed the delegation on the product<br />
diversity and cost, flexibilities, and speed. He stated that, “India<br />
manufactures 236 products across all categories of Knitted and<br />
Woven garments. We have about 6 million strong skilled and<br />
