Frank McCullys to Nevada
JOSEPH, ORE.—Ab Daisley is now managing
the Rainbow Theatre for the Frank Mc-
Cullys, who are locating in Las Vegas, Nev.,
where he is president of a large construction
company. Daisley is a partner in the Daisley-
Hepburn Logging Co., but expects to devote
Sterling Near Accord
On Auditorium Lease
THE DALLES, ORE.—At its
June meeting.
The Dalles city council ironed out details of
what it is hoped will be the final draft of an
agreement leasing the theatre section of the
civic auditorium to the Matthew-Moran Co.,
an affiliate of Sterling Theatres, which operates
theatres in The Dalles. The council
agreed to delete from the lease the company's
bid offer that they would make improvements
in the theatre of not less than $20,000. At
the request of William Danz of Sterling Theatres,
a list of improvements was substituted
for the requirement that $20,000 be spent to
improve the theatre. Danz said "competition"
would insure extensive improvement of the
theatre without a specific monetary agreement.
Both sides agreed to modify the lease so
that the theatre tenant would pay $7,500 in
advance to be used to revamp the auditorium's
heating system. In turn, the tenant would not
have to pay the last two and one-half years'
rent of the initial five-year lease. The $7,500
advance payment thus would be one-half the
$15,000 The Dalles will receive from the
motion picture operators for a lease.
Will Add Swimming Pool
To New Moyer Drive-In
PORTLAND—Further expansion is
planned
for the Division Street Drive-In following its
opening June 11, which was reported in the
June 14 issue of BOXOFFICE. Owned by
Moyer Theatres, which is operated by Tom,
Harry and Larry Moyer, the theatre will
eventually be one of the most elaborate recreational
layouts in the country, the Moyers
said last week.
They will equip the theatre with a swimming
pool, wading pool and kiddyland with
miniature rides in addition to the existing
playground equipment. The ozoner parks 350
cars on a 15-acre site and this, too, is in the
expansion plan, with an eventual capacity of
800. The concession building is of CaUfornia
design with the interior finished in redwood.
Murals tell stories of Walt Disney characters.
L. Tylers and Mrs. Mann
Open Los Molinos Airer
LOS MOLINOa, CAUP.—The new Los
Molinos Drive-In was opened following a
postponement from its first date because high
winds prevented work on the screen. It is
owned and is being operated by Mr. and Mrs.
L. Tyler and Mrs. L. Mann. It has a capacity
of 200 cars and facilities for pedestrian patrons
in front of the projection booth. The
24x30-foot screen is covered with processed
construction board.
The owners worked since last December to
have it ready for this season. Tyler said
the small but compact theatre would operate
seven nights.
Drive-In Renamed, Reopened
FORT MORGAN, COLO.—J. H. Roberts,
owner of the Port Morgan and Brush indoor
theatres, has reopened the Valley Drive-In,
formerly Bauer's Drive-In, which he bought
from Jake Bauer in February. The Brush
Drive-In was to open later. The concession
