Opened in Houston
HOUSTON-The grand opfuing of the
new King Center Twin Drive-In at Holmes
road and South Park boulevard, was held
June 25 with in-person appearances by Tim
Holt, Coleen Gray and Preston Poster,
On the back-to-back twin screens were
•One Big Affair" and "Hot Lead," both first
run films in Houston.
Capacity for the two-screen drive-in is
1,200 cars, according to Julius M. Gordon,
owner. Prior to the opening, the three film'

stars had numerous radio, TV and press interviews
in Houston.
Theatre-Radioman Gives
High Praise to Films
SAN ANTONIO—Gustavo Lavenant, known
as El Gavilan PoUero ahe Chicken Hawki on
KPOB, Pleasanton, recently dedicated a program
to Clasa-Mohme, Inc., in which he extolled
the merits of a forthcoming Latin-
American release, "El Derecho de Nacer" (The
Right to be Born) which will be premiered in
Texas next September. This picture, based on
a radio serial, is setting new records throughout
Mexico and Cuba.
Lavenant operates two theatres in addition
to his stint on the Pleasanton radio station.
They are the Haydee in Dilley and the Gavilan
in Jourdanton.
Cartoons Pull Crowds
HOUSTON—Six cartoons on the
same bill
with "The African Queen" picked up extended
playing time at the Delman Theatre
here. Ellis Ford, manager, said the public
kept the phone lines jammed, asking for
the starting times of the six animated shorts.
