Body of Christ that suffered it, by His own Almighty power and unspeakable goodness consecrated and
given unto us ... Anfl, therefore, have we great cause with great dread and reverence to consider well the
state of our own soul when we shall go to the Boanl of God, and as near as we can (with the help of
His special Grace lfiligently prayelf for before) purge and cleanse our souls by Confession, Contrition,
and Penance, with full purpose of forsaking from thenceforth the proufl desires of the devil, the greedy
covetousness of wretched woriflly wealth, fmd the foul affection of the filthy flesh, anfl being in full mind
to persevere, and continue in the WllYS of GOlf, and holy cleanness of Spirit
The language may be antiquated, but the sentiments are lively and entirely relevant to our time.
Added credence must be granted by us who read these words so many centuries later, for they are a
death-bed confession, the hopes and prayers of a dying saint calling out to us down the long course of
history: Be faithful, Be humble, Be holy, Hold on, Church, it is worth it all in the end! We
rely upon the intercession of this powerful saint, to appeal to his Lord and our Lord for the same Grace
of per severance and strength of will to witness to our Catholic Faith and to live lives of perfect integrity,
so that as we believe in Jesus Christ, so shall we say and do always. AMEN.
