It is an exciting time in Church
history when we celebrate both
the Year of Faith and a call to a
New Evangelization. We are the
Body of Christ in the
PREPARING FOR LENT:
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence.
Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence.
Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age through age 59. On a fast day, one
full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be
taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another
full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk
and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence
no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously
affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence,
the parish priest should be consulted.
Fasting, Almsgiving and Prayer are the three disciplines of Lent. The faithful
and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of
penance, and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.
world, called to pray and support
each other in so many
ways; ways reflecting the heart
of Christ.
The 2013 Diocesan Services
Appeal theme, Living Our
Faith, Giving in Love mirrors
the summons for a renewal of
our faith through the virtue of
sacrificial giving!
One cannot initiate the New
Evangelization without the generosity
of the faithful in each
parish, home and neighborhood.
The Diocesan Services
Appeal helps us to provide services
to those in need.
As you know, our diocese is
comprised of a tapestry of ethnic
and cultural communities.
Our communication and evangelization
efforts promote the
dignity of each person from
conception to natural death.
Today, more than ever, we need
your support in sustaining these
efforts.
Please prayerfully consider your
ability to support the 2013 Diocesan
Services Appeal. I recognize
these are economically challenging
times. Your sacrificial
gift is sincerely appreciated.
Together, through God’s grace,
we will continue to strive to
serve as God’s special stewards
in serving those in need.
With special gratitude for
your prayers and support, I
am Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito
Bishop of Palm Beach
