Environmental protection pays for itself<br />
Protection of the environment has been an integral part of training and development in the trades since the mid-eighties. Where it was initially a general question of<br />
taking care of the environment, about measures for disposing of pollution that had already occurred, the trades have, since the nineties, been increasingly sensitised to<br />
product-related environmental protection and environmental protection that is integral to production.<br />
The objective is now to prevent in advance possible environmental impact through the design of the products and by optimising the production methods.<br />
In Germany, there are now a number of legal requirements and orders relating to environmental protection.<br />
Do not look upon these requirements as an obligation you are forced to suffer, but rather as an opportunity to create for yourself a competitive advantage in the market<br />
thanks to your pioneering role.<br />
Any investment you make as an entrepreneur in integrating environmental protection into production will pay for itself. Thanks to changes in social attitudes, companies<br />
that operated according to the principle of sustainability are increasingly in demand. What is more, in some sectors, the modernisation and the implementation of environmental<br />
management structures within the company have even made it possible to reduce costs over the long term.<br />
There is potential for improvement measures in the following areas:<br />
» Energy savings by converting to renewables.<br />
» Reducing energy costs by refurbishing buildings.<br />
» Recovery of raw materials by implementing recycling processes.<br />
» Rehabilitation of legacy pollution and protection of the soil.<br />
» Reduction in volumes of waste water and the consumption of clean water.<br />
» Improvement in the use of chemicals.<br />
» Controlling waste and air pollution, prevention of noise pollution.<br />
Targeted subsidy programmes may be able to help finance certain measures. Consult your chamber of commerce or trade association for information.<br />
