someone landing a new job, receiving
a special honor or can report on a very
small addition to the MPI-CAC family.

People on the Move…
Keri Hinton, CMP is pleased to
announce that she recently joined
Crown Imports LLC as its meeting and
event planner. She is excited about
this opportunity to
return to a planning
role. Keri was most
recently an account

and has also worked

Freeman Company.

Kate Nelson has news to share! After
over six years living in Chicago, with
the last five spent with Chicago Is…, she
moved back to her native Washington,
DC. Kate started a new position as
director of special events for Meeting
Management Services, Inc. in DC.
She will always
value her time
and experiences
while working with
Chicago Is…, and
is humbled by the
talent that she
encountered in
Chicago’s meeting
and events industry. Kate remains
active as chair of MPI-CAC’s Newsletter
Committee and will continue to
make News&Views the outstanding
publication we have known it to be.

Some people really have two (or
more) careers, due to the abundance
of talent. Kathy O’Leary, CMP, is
certainly one of them. In addition to
being corporate sales manager at the
Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, she
has recently written
and published a new
book, entitled, Diva-
Tize, Frugal is the
New Black, A Diva’s
Guide to Thriving in
the Recession and
Beyond. Kathy’s
description of a diva is a woman of
grace, kindness, style, intelligence
and courage; the book shares how to
live and maintain a diva lifestyle on a
budget during hard economic times.
Over 40 women were interviewed for
her book to share their special tips and
great ideas. Kathy is happy to sign each

Patty Olejnik, CMP, featured last
year as a “Member in Transition,” is
happy to let readers know she is now
meetings manager at the Association
of Legal Administrators. She states that
“networking on LinkedIn and through
Meeting Professionals International
Chicago Area Chapter produced
the right connections to land her
new position.” Patty reports to Lisa
Mikita, CMP—they served on MPI-
CAC committees together and Patty
stayed in touch.

“to maintain
your contacts,
professionally and personally, and build
bridges and relationships that can
benefit both parties over time.” During
her transition period, Patty was not
idle in her job search or other fulfilling
