Joint Choral Concert
The annual Joint Choral Concert is an opportunity for our Senior Choir & A Cappella to
collaborate with the Bishop Wordsworth’s School Choir and perform with an orchestra of
professionals, friends and students. This year we were lucky enough to sing at St. Mark’s
Church, an ideal venue for our exciting programme.
Jointly, we sang Handel’s joyful Zadok the Priest, Mozart’s serene Ave Verum Corpus and
Faure’s famous Requiem, with soloists Iona MacDonald singing the Pie Jesu and Julian
Poppleton the baritone solo.
The Bishop’s Choir sang The Lamb by John Tavener, a selection of characteristically
performed folksongs, a Malawian Thanksgiving song and Joy to the World (Jeremiah was a
Bullfrog), all of which we thoroughly enjoyed hearing.
Our A Cappella Choir sang a beautiful arrangement of A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square
and a Rutter madrigal arrangement It was a Lover and his Lass. The Senior Choir performed I
will Sing with the Spirit, Fields of Gold and You Raise Me Up, all of which were really moving.
We would like to thank everyone
who helped organise the concert,
the music staff of both Bishop’s
and SWGS and the kind members
of the orchestra who performed
with us. The concert was an
invaluable and very enjoyable
experience and it was thrilling to
see and hear well over two
hundred and fifty musicians
performing to such a high
standard and with such obvious
enthusiasm. ( Miriam O’Connor)
Boosh Comedy Evening
On May 2nd, five students performed a version of the popular
comedy series 'The Mighty Boosh'. The evening was in
support of 'Help for Heroes', the charity for our wounded
servicemen and women. As well as the actual performance,
we have been raising money through the selling of 'H4H'
merchandise and the always successful use of collecting tins!
Lots of hard work went into the production of the show, and it
was a great success.
The total amount raised is still being counted, and we are
nearing the £500 mark! Thanks to all who donated. (Miss
Vice)
The Sound of Music
The sound of music cast and crew are continuing with their hard work to stage this fantastic
musical. This year sees the collaboration of the drama, art and music departments with Mrs
Poppleton and her team heading the music and Miss Gillot (office staff) and Mrs Sharples
leading the design team.
If anyone can donate costumes that could be suitable for the show it would be greatly
appreciated especially nun outfits. Tickets will be available from Mrs Wood in the library after
May half term. (Miss Vice)
