Terms<br />

Ability<br />

– The power to perform an observable activity at the present time. Evidence through activities or behavior that are<br />

similar to those required on the job, e.g., ability to write reports, ability to plan and organize.<br />

ACTEDS<br />

– A program designed to provide sequential and progressive development of key civilians from entry level to senior<br />

executive service. It has been designed to be similar to the existing military system an to ensure that civilian employees<br />

are properly trained and developed at the “right” time in their career. ACTEDS “blends” progressive and sequential<br />

work assignments, formal training, and self–development as people progress from entry level to key jobs.<br />

America’s Army<br />

– Includes military and civilian members of the Active Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard.<br />

Assessment<br />

– A method used to determine, from performance, the proficiency and potential of a leader. Ideally, assessment is<br />

characterized by an objective judgment against a standard (criterion–based).<br />

Attitude<br />

– The mental state of a person — based on beliefs and values — that influences behavior, choices, and expressed<br />

opinions.<br />

Behavior<br />

– An action or reaction to specific situations based on attitude, beliefs, and values.<br />

Branch Qualifications<br />

– The standards interim’s of schooling and operational assignments that officers must meet at the grade of captain to be<br />

qualified in their branch.<br />

Career Development Model<br />

– A defined process of progression from service entry to senior level executive position. Previously referred to as “Life<br />

Cycle Model.”<br />

Career Field<br />

– A grouping of functionally related commissioned officers, warrant officers, civilian and enlisted positions under a<br />

single agent for life cycle personnel management purposes.<br />
