The Baroque Nobles’ Palaces and<br />
Baroque Quarter<br />
The baroque quarter consists of a remarkable ensemble of<br />
buildings from the 18th century which gives the city its character.<br />
The baroque quarter consists of the cathedral, the cathedral<br />
deanery, the Residence, the Paulustor, the Guardhouse and<br />
some houses in a nearby street, Friedrichstrasse. The baroque<br />
nobles’ palaces, which are grouped around the Residence, were<br />
the homes of court administrators. These stately buildings,<br />
built by the architect Andreas Gallasini, are still used as offices<br />
by various institutions.<br />

The baroque city of <strong>Fulda</strong> grew<br />
up around the original medieval<br />
town. You can still see the lovingly restored semi-timbered<br />
houses and parts of the medi eval city wall between the cathedral<br />
and the Old Town. Here you will also discover tucked-away<br />
squares, traditional craftsmen’s workshops and pretty courtyards.
