cotta and bronze works. Among the pieces on display there
is a 2,400 year-old Greek vase which is often used to illustrate
Antique art in school books.
Every year the museum presents a special temporary exhibition
in the former bath house of the palace. Artworks which are
otherwise kept in storage or at other palaces of the House of
Hesse are brought together to create an exhibition about one
particular theme.

This impressive palace ensemble is said to be Hessen’s most
beautiful baroque palace. Built in the mid 18th century as a
summer residence for the Fulda prince-abbots, the palace came
into the possession of the Electors of Hesse-Kassel in 1816 and
is today owned by the Princes and Landgraves of Hesse. The
vast and varied art collection of the House of Hesse, displayed
here in 60 exhibition rooms, gives you a remarkable insight
into courtly lifestyle in the 18th and 19th centuries. A tour of the
palace allows you to experience the unique atmosphere of a
summer palace steeped in history.
The Art Collection of the House of Hesse
The Schloss Fasanerie Museum houses the porcelain collection
of the House of Hesse whose importance reaches well over
the state borders. The special tours of the porcelain collection
feature table services from the 18th and 19th centuries as well
as many porcelain figurines from the royal porcelain works in
Berlin, Meißen, Copenhagen and Sèvres. Here you will also
discover exquisite pieces from China, Japan and the smaller
European porcelain works.
Collectors’ pieces of simple beauty and rare quality from the
Antique period are displayed in Antique and Garden Halls of the
palace: Greek and Etruscan vases, Roman busts as well as terra-

every hour on the hour (last admission: 4 pm), tours of
the porcelain collection commence at 3 pm, children’s
tours at 2.45 pm on Tuesdays and 1.45 pm on Saturdays.
The museum is open on all public holidays
