The Vonderau Museum [12]
The Vonderau Museum Planetarium
Germany’s most advanced planetarium is located in the Vonderau
Museum. The visitors experience cosmic journeys
through the vast expanses of the universe. The simulation technology
which uses state-of-the-art full-dome video projection
beams the images onto a six-metre high projection dome above
the viewers, totally involving them in the scene; a conventional
screen is just no comparison!
Exhibition of historical rooms
The Vonderau Museum, situated
in the pedestrian area, is
the largest museum between
Frankfurt and Kassel. Its collections
are divided into three
sections.
The social history department
gives you an insight into
Fulda’s history from the Stone
Age until the present. Original
artefacts, models and reconstructions are combined to show
pre-Christian grave sites and the latest archaeological finds
from the Fulda area. Interactive stations enable you to dig into
the history of the monastery. There are detailed reconstructions
of rooms from different periods, a complete chemist’s shop and
some of the last existing Fuldamobils, a famous three-wheeler
car produced in Fulda. An exhibition of paintings and sculpture
shows the works of local artists. The natural history section shows
the geological origins of East Hesse and has dioramas showing
the typical biotopes of this region and their flora and fauna.
This department is very popular with children, whose curiosity
is stimulated by “hands-on” exhibits.
Every year the museum stages up to ten temporary exhibitions
covering regional subjects.
The programme ranges from
spectacular space journeys
to more earthbound, tranquil
views of the current night
skies above Fulda. Besides
purely astronomical subjects,
the varied programme also
includes subjects which deal
with man’s relationship to
the universe.

10.00 am- 12.00 am from Tuesday-Friday.

The museum is closed on 24.12 and is open from
10.00 am-2.00 pm on 31.12 (if this is not a Monday).
