Five candidates were selected during<br />
the year 2005 and all of them have<br />
graduated and returned to Pakistan.<br />
Eight candidates were selected during<br />
the year 2006. Out of eight scholars,<br />
two have graduated and returned<br />
while one could not complete his PhD<br />
due to medical reasons and the<br />
remaining five are in their third year of<br />
study.<br />
PhD Scholarships for Basic<br />
Sciences, China<br />
The Scheme launched in July 2003 supports PhD<br />
level training of 50 outstanding public sector<br />
university teachers / researchers in advanced<br />
fields of Basic Sciences. This supplements our<br />
efforts to provide opportunities to teachers and<br />
researchers for higher education abroad. It<br />
facilitates assimilation and transfer of important<br />
and promising scientific knowledge and<br />
information to achieve rapid economic progress.<br />
Physical Progress:<br />
Out of the 50 scholarship slots available, 48<br />
candidates were selected and proceeded to<br />
China.<br />
Batch I<br />
35 candidates were selected during the<br />
year 2004. Out of these 35 scholars, 34<br />
have graduated, returned and have<br />
joined their parent organizations. The<br />
last remaining scholar will hopefully<br />
graduate by Dec 2009.<br />
