Current Status of Journals<br />

A total of 129 local journals have been<br />

recognized by HEC. The category-wise<br />

distribution of journals is as under:<br />

Financial Support for Journals<br />

An amount of Rs. 19 million was released to HEC<br />

Recognized Journals during <strong>2008</strong>-09 for the upgradation<br />

of research journals in the country. The<br />

Committee for Allocation of Funds to HEC<br />

Recognized Journals approved the following<br />

category-wise financial support, per annum.<br />

Category W : Rs. 0.7 million<br />

Category X : Rs. 0.5 million<br />

Category Y : Rs. 0.43 million<br />

Category Z : Rs. 0.25 million<br />

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for<br />

Evaluation of Journals have been prepared and<br />

complete process of recognition of journals has<br />

been defined. The (SOPs) for financial support to<br />

HEC Recognized Journals for up-gradation of<br />

Journals have also been prepared and complete<br />

process for acquiring financial support from HEC<br />

has been defined. A user friendly webpage for<br />

HEC Recognized Journals has been developed<br />

and canvas of FAQs is also extended to facilitate<br />

the stakeholders.<br />

Plagiarism Policy<br />

A mass awareness programme regarding the<br />

plagiarism issues was effectively pursued by the<br />

Quality Assurance Division during the year <strong>2008</strong>-<br />

09. Plagiarism Policy duly approved by the<br />

<strong>Commission</strong> has been published and distributed<br />

to all higher education institutions (HEIs) of<br />

Pakistan. As far as implementation of the policy is<br />

concerned, 75 cases of plagiarism have been<br />

reported to HEC untill now; out of which 49 cases<br />

have been closed after investigation as per policy<br />

procedures whereas 26 cases are under<br />

investigation at the universities.<br />

Workshops for Editors<br />

The Quality Assurance Division is focusing on the<br />

promotion of quality and bringing HEC<br />

recognized research journals in the country at par<br />

with international standards. In this regard four<br />

region-wise workshops were conducted to<br />

interact with the Editors of research journals for<br />

the purpose of capacity building, experience<br />

sharing and to address the issues/problems. The<br />

workshop of the Editors of Science, Social<br />

Science, Language and Multidisciplinary Journals
