Pakistan Programme for<br />

Collaborative Research<br />

Pakistan Programme for Collaborative Research<br />

(PPCR) provides one window facility through<br />

which the academia from around the world can<br />

collaborate with researchers in Pakistan. This<br />

programme, which is primarily targeted at the<br />

faculty members and researchers of Pakistani<br />

origin serving at premier teaching and research<br />

institutions of the world, aims to strengthen the<br />

indigenous capacity in all the disciplines of<br />

academic research and to raise the overall<br />

standard of teaching and research.<br />

The experts from universities are involved<br />

in developing curriculum, updating laboratory<br />

techniques and providing guidance to<br />

postgraduates students. Scholars are encouraged<br />

to develop joint research programmes with local<br />

faculty.<br />

Grants are provided to the scholars for<br />

travel and short-term visit of each other's<br />

institutions/ laboratory for advance research or<br />

take up joint research studies. Such visits may<br />

also be used for development of joint research<br />

proposals which may be submitted to internal<br />

and external funding agencies.<br />

The Programme also provides an<br />

opportunity to foster collaboration between the<br />

universities/ DAIs and research organization in<br />

Pakistan and the academics abroad to advance<br />

research, higher education and high tech industry<br />

in Pakistan.<br />

Foreign Experts' Visit to Pakistan (maximum<br />

of three months) aims to<br />

foster collaborative research efforts among<br />

the host institute and parent organization by<br />

initiating at least one joint research proposal<br />

conduct at least two workshops/ seminars<br />

during the visit<br />

organize lectures/courses train the host<br />

institution's faculty<br />

help in curriculum development/course<br />

contents<br />

develop shared resources update laboratory<br />

techniques and provide guidance to<br />

postgraduate students, and<br />

participate in policy guidelines and/or<br />

standards of education in the host institute<br />

Foreign Visit of Local Faculty Members<br />

(maximum of one month) aims to<br />

develop/initiate at least one joint research<br />

proposal in the relevant field for submission<br />

to any funding agency<br />

develop collaborative programmes with<br />

foreign university<br />

sign MOUs/agreements<br />

establish linkage between foreign institution<br />

and the Pakistani university<br />

learn, exchange, collaborate and share related<br />

information<br />

share national and international educational<br />

and research activities<br />

seek external grants to support faculty<br />

development initiatives<br />

seek federal, foreign and non-governmental<br />

organizational funding for joint programme<br />

Short-term (maximum of four months)<br />

Consultant at HEC for PPCR<br />

to help in curriculum development<br />

to provide consultancy in the specific field as<br />

desired<br />

to conduct workshops / seminars /<br />

symposia etc.<br />

Achievements<br />

So far, six foreign experts have visited Pakistani<br />

universities to deliver lectures, develop<br />

curriculum, and conduct workshops etc. Five<br />

Pakistani faculty members have been facilitated<br />

to visit foreign universities for development of<br />

their research proposals, develop shared<br />

resources, sharing knowledge and develop<br />

collaborative programmes with foreign<br />

university etc.<br />
