AVOIDING MISTAKES<br />

The stove does not draw in enough air or smokes when being re-stoked<br />

Is the draught in the chimney too low?<br />

Is there a leak in the stove pipe or the chimney? Are any connections leaking?<br />

Does the stove pipe project into the chimney?<br />

Is the door of another stove open which is connected to the same chimney?<br />

Is the wood dry? Is it cut to the right size?<br />

Is the deflection plate in the right position?<br />

non-compliance with these<br />

instructions is not covered by<br />

the guarantee.<br />

The stove does not give off enough heat<br />

Is the room too big for the stove?<br />

Is there too much ash on the grate?<br />

Is the ash box full?<br />

Is the stove pipe blocked?<br />

Are primary or secondary air slides closed?<br />

Is the connection between stove and chimney leaking?<br />

Is the wood dry? Is it cut to the right size?<br />

The stove gives off too much heat<br />

Are primary or secondary air slides open too far?<br />

Is the door of the fire chamber closed properly?<br />

Is the ash box closed properly?<br />

Is the draught in the chimney too high?<br />

Is there too much fuel on the fire?<br />

The window becomes too sooty<br />

Is the chimney draught ok? Soot deposits on the glass may be caused by chimney draught<br />

which is too high or too low.<br />

Are you using the right amount of fuel?<br />

Is the wood dry? Is it cut to the right size?<br />

Is the fire receiving enough air to burn with a bright flame?<br />

Chimney on fire<br />

The use of damp fuel or fuel of the wrong type may cause soot deposits in the chimney which<br />

can ignite. In case of a chimney fire, close the primary and secondary air slides and the door<br />

to the fire chamber. Call the fire service, heating engineer, chimney sweep. Before re-lighting<br />

the fire, have the chimney inspected by a qualified engineer. Do not attempt to extinguish<br />

the fire with water. This may cause an explosion of steam in the chimney, causing serious<br />

damage to the building.<br />

n Unusual noises from the stove<br />

n Chimney wall becomes hot<br />

n Wallpaper becomes loose or falls off<br />

n Unusual amounts of smoke<br />

n Flames emerge from chimney<br />
