Maison VEUVE AMBAL was
founded in 1898 in the heart of Burgundian
terroirs.
When she became the widow
(veuve) of a Parisian banker, Marie
Ambal returned to Rully, the village
of her birth, to join her brother who at
that time was a Burgundy vine owner
and wine broker. This was the time of
the beginnings of the use of the “méthode
champenoise” sparkling wine
making method. Marie took an active
interest in it and decided to set
up her own wine house in 1898.Very
quickly the quality of her wines gained
fame, winning medals at wine
competitions. The level of excellence
that was inspired by Marie Ambal
has never fallen. It is passed down
through the generations.
When she died, her grandson,
Charles Roux Ambal, followed in her
footsteps before passing his knowhow
on in turn to his grandson, Eric
Piffaut, who is today’s president of
this sparkling family-run Burgundian
house of wine. After over a century
in its original cellars in Rully, Maison
VEUVE AMBAL moved to Montagnyles-Beaune
in 2005. The new building
combines futuristic architecture and
traditional Burgundian-inspired materials,
expressing the combination
of tradition and modernity that is the
signature of today’s leader in Crémant
de Bourgogne.
Products
Veuve Ambal is the largest producer
of Crémant de Bourgogne and Traditional
Method sparkling wines in
Burgundy, employing 74 people and
producing 11 million bottles (30% of
which are exported).
With over 200 hectares (495 acres) of
vineyards, VEUVE AMBAL is owner/winemaker
of four leading estates, set
in a wealth of renowned Burgundian
appellation areas.
DOMAINE DE LA VIGNE AU ROY :
Based near Nuits-Saint-Georges in
Hautes Côtes de Nuits.
DOMAINE GRACIEUX CHEVALIER : A
single-spread vineyard covering 45
hectares (111 acres) in Cravant to
the south of Chablis, that is the expression
of the Auxerrois terroir.
DOMAINE LA GRANDE CÔTE : Borders
Champagne at Molesme. Here
is vinegrowing land par excellence.
In yesteryear the village slopes were
tended by the Cistercian monks of
the Abbaye de Molesme.
DOMAINE LES VIGNES DE L’ANGE :
The most wide-ranging. Its vineyards
are in the Maranges and Couchois
appellation areas to the south of
Côte de Beaune.
Sparkling wines:
BLANC BRUT Méthode Traditionnelle
« CARTE OR » (yellow-green in color
with magnificent tints of gold, as well
as fine bubbles)
ROSE BRUT Méthode Traditionnelle «
CARTE OR » (tints of bronze and fine
bubbles. The nose is fruity and fresh)
Crémant de Bourgogne :
AOC blanc ‘BRUT’ (It is full, well-structured
and balanced on the palate.
Aromas of red and citrus fruits dominate,
but the nose has hints of flowers
and butter too)
AOC blanc ‘DEMI-SEC’ (Aromas of
jam, fruits and honey. The mouth is
round and generous)
AOC ‘ROSE’ brut (It is dominated by
red fruit (raspberry, redcurrant). The
fine bubbles and pale rosé color will
delight the most delicate taste buds)
AOC blanc brut « GRANDE CUVEE »
(The nose is of great finesse. The fruity
and floral aromas are complemented
by slightly toasted hints)
