The Hindu, India’s largest national newspaper, wrote a
story about the University of Dayton, calling it a “model”
for developing sensitive leaders. Today’s students need
to focus on cultural competencies. Mere academic
competencies will not do, University of Dayton President
Daniel J. Curran told the paper. “If students in the U.S.
don’t know what’s happening globally, the country will be
challenged in the next 20 years,” Curran said.
The New Indian Express ran a full-color story on UD’s
partnership with two Indian universities and quoted
Vice President for Enrollment Management Sundar
Kumarasamy: “When it comes to human resources, the
global competition is going to come from India. ... Our
partnerships allow us to extend the classroom experience
beyond the walls of our
campuses, prepare us to
think and act globally,
provide us with extensive
research opportunities
and grant us possibilities
to promote change.”
The Hindu mentioned
UD’s No. 2 ranking in
the U.S. for materials
engineering and No. 5
ranking for the entrepreneurial programs.
The University of Dayton signed agreements for
exchange with two universities in Chennai, India, known
for their business and engineering programs. The key
areas of research exchange include nanotechnology,
engineering, energy assessment and fuel combustion.
More than 20 Indian news agencies attended a press
conference announcing the partnerships, including the
country’s largest newspapers, The Hindu, Times of
India, and The New Indian Express; the largest news
wire services (Press Trust of India, United News of India)
and local television stations. At least 13 publications
covered the news in print and online.
