The Hindu, <strong>In</strong>dia’s largest national newspaper, wrote a<br />
story about <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dayton</strong>, calling it a “model”<br />
for developing sensitive leaders. Today’s students need<br />
to focus on cultural competencies. Mere academic<br />
competencies will not do, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dayton</strong> President<br />
Daniel J. Curran told <strong>the</strong> paper. “If students in <strong>the</strong> U.S.<br />
don’t know what’s happening globally, <strong>the</strong> country will be<br />
challenged in <strong>the</strong> next 20 years,” Curran said.<br />
The New <strong>In</strong>dian Express ran a full-color story on UD’s<br />
partnership with two <strong>In</strong>dian universities and quoted<br />
Vice President for Enrollment Management Sundar<br />
Kumarasamy: “When it comes to human resources, <strong>the</strong><br />
global competition is going to come from <strong>In</strong>dia. ... Our<br />
partnerships allow us to extend <strong>the</strong> classroom experience<br />
beyond <strong>the</strong> walls <strong>of</strong> our<br />
campuses, prepare us to<br />
think and act globally,<br />
provide us with extensive<br />
research opportunities<br />
and grant us possibilities<br />
to promote change.”<br />

UD’s No. 2 ranking in<br />
<strong>the</strong> U.S. for materials<br />
engineering and No. 5<br />
ranking for <strong>the</strong> entrepreneurial programs.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dayton</strong> signed agreements for<br />
exchange with two universities in Chennai, <strong>In</strong>dia, known<br />
for <strong>the</strong>ir business and engineering programs. The key<br />
areas <strong>of</strong> research exchange include nanotechnology,<br />
engineering, energy assessment and fuel combustion.<br />
More than 20 <strong>In</strong>dian news agencies attended a press<br />
conference announcing <strong>the</strong> partnerships, including <strong>the</strong><br />
country’s largest newspapers, The Hindu, Times <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>In</strong>dia, and The New <strong>In</strong>dian Express; <strong>the</strong> largest news<br />
wire services (Press Trust <strong>of</strong> <strong>In</strong>dia, United <strong>News</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>In</strong>dia)<br />
and local television stations. At least 13 publications<br />
covered <strong>the</strong> news in print and online.<br />
CRI English, a Chinese online news source, wrote about<br />
Shanghai Normal <strong>University</strong>’s partnership with <strong>the</strong><br />
