University of Dayton. The story discussed how Shanghai
universities are creating distance-learning centers to
connect local classes to international partners.
The New York Times on Sept. 10 reported on the
University of Dayton’s decision to donate architectural
elements from Building 26, ruled ineligible for the
National Register of Historic Places, to Dayton History.
A permanent exhibit is planned about the World War II
code-breaking work that occurred in Dayton.
Film director Spike Lee shared his life story with UD
students as part of the Diversity Lecture Series. The
Associated Press covered the event, where Lee also
endorsed presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Hundreds of news outlets around the country picked up
the story.
Kathleen Henderson, director of the office of first-year
student engagement, was featured as the only noncelebrity
in the national PBS series African American
Lives 2. A UD graduate, Henderson was selected from
2,000 applicants to have her family history traced and
spoke to a variety of
news outlets about the
experience including The
New York Times, The
Columbus Dispatch, The
(Cleveland) Plain Dealer
and the Philadelphia
Daily News. By the time
the last episodes of the
series aired, more than
700 news outlets and
Web sites had reported on Henderson’s selection.
