UKHO CARTOGRAPHIC TRAINING COURSE: THE ELECTRONIC CHART Description An introduction to electronic chart display information systems and the use of official chart data within such systems. The course comprises of 2 sessions; 1. How the data (S-57) is generated, maintained and distributed. 2. The management and display of chart data within an ECDIS Aim Enhance knowledge of navigation safety and efficiency through an understanding of the ECDIS functionality and chart display capabilities. Duration 1 day course designed to be delivered at the organisations venue or at the UKHO. For further details of this and other charting related ECDIS courses please contact the UKHO Training Manager. Designed for Delegates who require knowledge of ECDIS and related charting issues; necessary for the management, navigation and decision making associated with electronic charting. This course is suitable as a complement to the STCWS IMO 1.27 Model course - Operational Use of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS). Pre requisites The course will be conducted in English and therefore a good standard of both spoken and written English is required. Delegates should have a basic understanding of paper chart content. Objectives By the end of this course delegates will be able to: • Appreciate the value of ECDIS • Describe the generic principles of ECDIS and other chart systems • Understand the capabilities and limitations of ECDIS • Understand the regulatory requirements of ECDIS • Understand the SENC display standard • Understand the structure of ENC data • Recognise basic ENC and ECDIS symbols • Identify potential errors that can arise from the ECDIS display • Identify the risk of over reliance on ECDIS F O C U S S E D O N Q U A L I T Y
