UKHO CARTOGRAPHIC TRAINING TRAINER PROFILE Mrs Paulene Hocking Technical Trainer United Kingdom Hydrographic Office Paulene was appointed to her current position of Training Officer in May 2003 and has since achieved the CIPD Certificate in Training and Development. She has joint responsibility to design, develop and deliver training to new recruits and international students. Paulene co presented training courses abroad to help improve and enhance learning capacity within other organisations. She is currently involved in the planning and designing of the training to implement a new system to the core business. Paulene’s experience includes working as a compiler in the area of South East Asia , plus responsibilities for Singapore including work experience in the Singapore Hydrographic Office. She has knowledge in both traditional and digital compilation, being involved early on in the digital system still used today. In the Defence Area, Paulene worked on developing a totally digital product for the Naval Merlin Helicopter. Paulene has undertaken various courses at the local college and is continuing her development in CIPD. TRAINER PROFILE Mr Martin Storrar Technical Trainer United Kingdom Hydrographic Office Martin joined the Training Team in 2003 and is jointly responsible for the design and delivery of training to new recruits and International students. Martin has over thirty years of experience joining UKHO in 1976. His career in cartography ranged from responsiblilty for the depiction of all National and International cables on Admiralty charts, managing the Hydrographic Data Centre and the Chart Correction Office. He has an ONC in Surveying and Cartography and has recently gained a CIPD Certificate in Training Practice. R E S P O N S I V E T O O U R C U S T O M E R S 7
UKHO CARTOGRAPHIC TRAINING UKHO COURSES The courses currently available from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office Hydrographic Data Processing and Marine Cartography Hydrographic Data Processing and Marine Cartography • Module 1 – Marine Cartography • Module 2 – Hydrographic Data Processing • Module 3 – The Electronic Navigational Chart Introduction to Hydrographic Data Processing and Marine Cartography • A course designed to provide delegates with an introduction to cartographic principles and the processing of source information. Introduction to the Electronic Navigational Chart • A course designed to provide delegates with an introduction to the Electronic Navigational Chart and the principals of S57 data Capture Standard. Phase One Skills • A course designed to provide delegates with an introduction to the assessment and promulgation of navigationally significant information. UKHO Cartographic Training also offers the following basic courses: Chart Awareness • A course primarily aimed at non cartographic delegates who require a basic knowledge and understanding of the navigational chart. Plotting • A course designed for delegates who require the ability to plot positions accurately on a navigational chart. Chart Updating • A course designed for delegates who require the skill and knowledge to be able to accurately update the paper navigational chart using Notice to Mariners updates.
