TRAINER PROFILE
Mr Derek Aldridge
Technical Trainer
United Kingdom Hydrographic Office
Derek joined the Training team in 2006. His background includes all areas of cartography
ranging from traditional production techniques to traditional and digital compilation. Derek
has over thirty years of experience having joined the UKHO in 1975.
Derek spent several years in the Digital Training and Support section, providing technical
advice on all matters relating to digital cartography. His role included liaison with software
companies such as CARIS, Laser Scan, ESRI and Dkart.
Derek has visited several Hydrographic Offices where he has provided technical solutions to
issues regarding digital chart production and the exchange of repromat data.

Mr Ken Blagdon
ENC Technical Trainer
United Kingdom Hydrographic Office
Ken joined the training team in 2004 where he has specialised in delivering ENC training to
UKHO staff and International students at UKHO and abroad
Ken has over twenty years of experience having joined the UKHO in 1987. As a compilation
draughtsman he specialised in charts of UK home waters most noticeably the North Sea.
On joining the embryonic ENC Production Branch in 1996, he was tasked with producing
training manuals with which to train new ENC entrants, IT staff and International colleagues.
Ken’s qualifications include a BTEC in Cartography and Surveying and City and Guilds in
Computer Aided Draughting and Design.
