principles that should always be observed are: (1) growing a healthy crop <strong>and</strong> the
need <strong>for</strong> healthy soil; (2) conserving natural enemies <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong>ing the ecosystem;
<strong>and</strong> (3) carrying out regular field observation <strong>and</strong> monitoring <strong>of</strong> pest
organisms.
3. Evaluation
The FFS, like the TOT, should include evaluation <strong>of</strong> participants both be<strong>for</strong>e the
course <strong>and</strong> at the end. For this purpose, a test should be set to assess the level <strong>of</strong>
participants’ knowledge <strong>of</strong> MeBr phase-out <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> the available alternative
technologies.
The first test will contain more elements <strong>for</strong> the preparation <strong>of</strong> the FFS programme
while the final test will show the level <strong>of</strong> underst<strong>and</strong>ing achieved by farmers
during the training.
The tests should consist <strong>of</strong> some basic questions, such as:
• identification <strong>of</strong> soil arthropods, nematodes, disease symptoms <strong>and</strong> common
weeds
